Tom Petty

>Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers shared the previously unreleased song “For Real” to announce a new expansive hits collection on Friday (Feb. 15).

Unearthed from the late rocker’s vault of never-before-heard material, the new track will be featured on Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers: The Best Of Everything, a posthumous compilation of four decades of hits by Petty, who passed away in 2017 just one week after finishing the band’s 40th anniversary tour. The new collection will serve as a fitting complement to last year’s career-spanning box set, An American Treasure, and was compiled by Petty’s family and bandmates to fulfill the “American Girl” singer’s long-standing desire to someday release what he believed to be the best hits and strongest deep cuts of his catalog in one package.

Among its 38 songs, The Best Of Everything will also feature another previously unreleased, alternate version of the title track — originally recorded for the band’s 1985 album Southern Accents —  as well as a personal essay written by Petty’s longtime close friend, Academy Award-winning screenwriter Cameron Crowe.

Most recently, Petty’s 1989 debut solo album Full Moon Fever was honored as a 2019 Grammy Hall of Fame inductee. The rock icon’s seminal album went 5x platinum in the U.S., 6x platinum in Canada and featured now-classic hits like “Free Fallin’” and “I Won’t Back Down.”
